JAPANESE BON ODORI WORKSHOP & ANCESTORS DAY CELEBRATION
Saturday 8 August, from 2-5pm
Description
Join Kazuko for a warm and welcoming afternoon exploring the Japanese Bon Odori tradition — a celebration connected to Obon, the Japanese festival honouring ancestors and remembering those who have passed before us.
Part cultural workshop, part hands-on experience, this special event offers the chance to discover Japanese customs, stories, and traditions in an informal and engaging way. Throughout the afternoon you will be invited to try a range of activities including origami crane making, Bon Odori dancing, and a simple Japanese green tea experience.
Kazuko will share insights into the meaning and cultural background of Obon, along with the importance of gathering, remembrance, hospitality, and seasonal celebration within Japanese culture. No prior experience is needed — simply come along ready to learn, participate, and enjoy trying something new in a relaxed community atmosphere.
