Starts 13 August from 6-7.30pm

Description

Planning a trip to Japan? This practical and engaging course will help you travel with greater confidence, ease, and cultural understanding. Learn useful everyday phrases for navigating stations, restaurants, shops, and public spaces. Learn key etiquette and social customs that can make all the difference when travelling in Japan.

Kazuko will guide you through simple conversational Japanese, understanding signs and directions, railway systems, and common travel situations — from finding the correct train exit to asking for help in an emergency. You’ll also explore the cultural meanings behind everyday interactions and discover how small differences in behaviour can be interpreted very differently in Japan.

Topics include dining etiquette, queuing, rubbish sorting, shoes-off customs, public manners, chopstick use, and the “dos and don’ts” that visitors are often unaware of. Along the way you’ll also learn a few warm and friendly phrases guaranteed to make locals smile. Perfect for first-time travellers, repeat visitors, or anyone curious about Japanese culture and communication.
