ICE SHEETS – PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE

7 December, 6-8pm

Description

Antarctica and Greenland are largely covered by massive ice sheets. These have waxed and waned over long periods in response to changes in global temperature. Presently they are slowly shrinking. What will be their future in the remainder of this century, for the next few centuries and over the next millennia? Sea levels are closely tied to the fate of these ice sheets. We will look at the results of some studies that are clarifying the prospects. Paul Broady has long had an interest in climate change and scientific understanding of processes involved. He taught in the School of Biological Sciences, University of Canterbury and has performed research in Antarctica and Iceland. He is passionate about sharing his knowledge with others.
