WIDE HORIZONS: MAKE ART LIKE GEORGIA O’KEEFFE & RITA ANGUS

Discover the work of pioneering artists Georgia O’Keeffe and Rita Angus—two strong, independent women who pursued distinctive artistic visions and inspired generations of artists. Compare O’Keeffe’s dramatic close-up flowers and red-ochre New Mexico landscapes with the lush green hills and cloud-filled Canterbury scenes of Angus, including her iconic painting Cass.

Across three weeks, you’ll learn about composition, colour blending and working with a limited palette. Experiment with charcoal, watercolour, soft pastels and oil pastels, using blending tools and incised marks to create different effects. In the final week, bring these techniques together in a mixed-media artwork inspired by one or both of these remarkable artists. Suitable for all levels, including beginners. Maximum 14 participants. All materials are provided, including mixed-media and watercolour paper, artist-quality soft pastels, oil pastels and blending tools to keep.

Margaret Taylor is the Creative Director of Art Grooves and holds a Diploma in Art & Creativity from The Learning Connexion. She previously ran a popular art education programme for KAC for more than eight years.
