INK JOY: JAPANESE CALLIGRAPHY AND BRUSH WORK

Join Kazuko Iwai for this fun exploration of this traditional Japanese art form. Authentic Japanese Calligraphy requires the use of a Japanese ink block. Rubbed in water this ink block can create an incredible number of shades of grey and black. As well as writing characters with brushes, Kazuko will introduce the art form of using calligraphy brushes to draw on paper utilizing the many shades of Japanese ink for shading, tone and texture. Simple strokes to produce beautiful results. Kazuko is a passionate crafter who teaches many aspects of Japanese culture here at the WEA and her lessons are always fun and participatory. This workshop is suitable for the complete beginner or those who have tried this art form before. All materials are included.
