Starts 28th May, 1-2.30pm
Description
Join Kazuko Iwai for this fun exploration of this traditional Japanese art form. Authentic Japanese Calligraphy requires the use of a Japanese ink block. Rubbed in water this ink block can create an incredible number of shades of grey and black. As well as writing characters with brushes, Kazuko will introduce the art form of using calligraphy brushes to draw on paper utilizing the many shades of Japanese ink for shading, tone and texture. Simple strokes to produce beautiful results. Each week you will learn some simple Japanese characters of your choice. As part of this course you will learn how to bind all the sheets you create into a book in a traditional Japanese style.
Kazuko is a passionate crafter who teaches many aspects of Japanese culture here at the WEA and her lessons are always fun and participatory. This course is suitable for the complete beginner or those who have tried this art form before. All materials are included.
