FLAMBOYANT FRIDA KAHLO: PAINT AN ARTWORK IN HER STYLE

Description
Frida Kahlo loved bright colours, birds, monkeys and foliage. This mixed media workshop lets you paint a version of her magical realist style. You can paint her portrait with elements of your own features or your own self-portrait in bright colours with exotic elements. I have simple solutions with a step-by-step approach for those who lack confidence/skill in drawing faces. You also get 1-to-1 feedback from the tutor as you work to help make minor corrections or enhance your work.Tea and coffee provided bring your own lunch.
Learn how to:
- understand colour theory and use vibrant background and highlight colours
- sketch a recognisable face with appropriate proportions
- practice mixing different skin tone colours and apply these to your painting
- add birds, head-dresses, jewellery or objects meaningful to your story
Students will bring their own materials: paints [gouache, acrylic or watercolour]. Bring a warm red, yellow, blue and a cool red, yellow, blue, plus raw umber and yellow ochre for toning. Also brushes, palette, drawing paper: 4 sheets A4 size for sketches, pencil 2B, eraser, 2 sheets of A3 wet strength or watercolour paper (300gsm cold press (rough).
