DISCOVER NEPALI CUISINE WITH SHARE KAI
Monday 4th November, 6-8.30pm, $29
Description
The Share Kai Cooks Collective is made up of former refugee and migrant women who are passionate cooks and love to share their culture through food. At this cooking demonstration Tulasha from the Nepali/Bhutanese Share Kai Cooks Collective will share her recipe for a delicious traditional meal featuring Nepali style chicken curry, served with achaar (raw vegetables in a fresh tangy pickle), dahl and rice. Tulasha was taught from a young age by the other women in her family to cook. She grew up with 7 siblings in Tsirang, Bhutan, in a Lhotshampa community of ethnic Nepali and remembers making meals for her siblings from a young age, although not always very well! After being resettled in New Zealand, Tulasha and her family moved to Ōtautahi Christchurch 15 years ago. Cooking is a beloved pastime of Tulasha’s, and Chicken Curry is a favourite dish as it reminds her of family and time spent together. People always comment on how tasty it smells, which makes her happy and always brings back good memories. This demo style session will be a chance to connect and hear stories as well as learn how to make this delicious food. The session will conclude with a shared meal of the dishes prepared during the evening.
