DEBATES, DEBUNKS & DELIBERATIONS

RATIONAL THINKING IN A DISINFORMATION LANDSCAPE Wednesday 11th September, 6.30-8pm

Description

Brought to you by FACT (Fight against Conspiracy Theories), we invite you to join us for this important talk and discussion. Disinformation is one of the major challenges of our time. False narratives pushed by individuals, corporate interest groups, and state actors spread rapidly through social media and go on to influence politics and threaten social cohesion.

Byron Clark is the author of ‘Fear: New Zealand’s Hostile Underworld of Extremists’ and a recent series of articles on climate change disinformation published by The Spinoff. This talk will look at two recent disinformation campaigns that have taken place in Aotearoa, the campaign against the UN Global Compact and Safe and Orderly Migration, and the campaign to portray methane as an “irrelevant Greenhouse gas”.
