TE REO MĀORI , PRONUNCIATION & INTRO

Description

Our 8-week course has been highly successful and is ideal for learners with limited or no prior knowledge of te reo Māori, as well as those wishing to refresh their pronunciation and build greater confidence and cultural understanding. Participants are welcomed into a friendly, supportive learning environment, with guided practice designed to help you speak te reo Māori with clarity, confidence, and respect.

 

This course emphasises correct pronunciation & provides a practical introduction to:

• Karakia – understanding their purpose and participating confidently

• Basic greetings and farewells (mihimihi)

• Personal introductions

• Correct pronunciation of Māori place names

• Local history and kōrero tuku iho

• An introduction to tikanga Māori – essential values, practices, and cultural concepts

 

By the end of the course, learners feel equipped to use every day te reo Māori confidently and respectfully in personal, community, and workplace settings. About Your Kaiako – Maria Korako-Tait: Maria previously delivered basic pronunciation and introductory te reo Māori classes for government agencies while working for Te Puni Kōkiri – Ministry for Māori Development. Since retiring in 2018, she remains passionate about supporting all learners who wish to strengthen their confidence and connection with te reo Māori.
