CAPITALS OF WESTERN(ISH) EUROPE

Capital cities often tell micro-versions of national history. Why chosen, when built, for what purpose and how the city was shaped and was shaped historical events. In this new course we consider the founding, constructions and history of the westernmost slice of Europe, in nations primarily on the Atlantic, whose naval traditions blend with seasonal storms. From Iceland to Iberia, including all four countries of the UK. We will also include Nuuk, Greenland, geographically American, culturally Inuit, but associated with Europe.
