COURAGEOUS POLITICAL CONVERSATIONS (Tues morning)
20 October 2026
Description
In an election year, conversations about politics can be challenging, but they also provide an opportunity to strengthen democracy, build understanding, and connect across difference. This interactive session will help you develop the confidence and skills to engage in respectful political conversations, even when views differ. Together we'll explore practical strategies for listening with curiosity, asking thoughtful questions, managing strong emotions, and responding respectfully without avoiding difficult topics. We'll consider how our own values and experiences shape the way we communicate, and how a Te Tiriti-informed approach can support inclusive and respectful dialogue. Jennifer Leahy is an experienced educator and facilitator with a strong commitment to lifelong learning and inclusive practice. She has designed and delivered education and training programmes across the tertiary sector, (Ako Aotearoa/ACE Aotearoa) corporate settings, community initiatives, and Ara Poutama Department of Corrections. Jennifer has been very active in the local Adult and Community Education Network as well as being a member of the Canterbury WEA Council.
