HEALING THE HEALTH SYSTEM?

Is there a best way to run a health system? Some argue that New Zealand's Health system is on an ever-sliding path, with successive left- and right-wing governments struggling to find enough band-aids to cover growing problems. Is it broken or the result of past choices made? In this course we explore key issues and concerns through history and in our own health system, and then focus on how several other countries around the world arrange their own systems to address those problems. We finish with some reflections on proposals by NZ political parties on how to deal with those problems, as we head towards the 2026 election. Michael Couch has been teaching community education courses for over a decade. With an academic background in Philosophy, Classical Studies, Education and History, Michael recently completed his PhD in the History of Philosophy of Education in New Zealand. He enjoys learning new topics and incorporates passion and wry humour into all the courses he teaches.
