SASHIKO FOR BEGINNERS: HITOME-ZASHI

Starts 6th May

Description

Sashiko is a traditional Japanese stitching technique that began as a practical way to reinforce worn areas of clothing, making garments stronger and warmer. Over time it has developed into a beautiful decorative art, valued for its simple patterns and rhythmic stitching. In this beginner-friendly course you will learn Hitome-zashi, a style of sashiko that creates striking geometric designs using rows of evenly spaced running stitches worked on a grid. The technique is straightforward to learn and produces intricate, eye-catching results. As well as being visually appealing, sashiko is known for its calm and meditative quality. Join Kazuko Iwai to learn the basics of this elegant stitching tradition in a relaxed and supportive class. Cotton fabric, thread, and needles are supplied and included in the course fee.
