IKEBANA: THE ART OF JAPANESE FLOWER ARRANGING
16th May
Description
In Japanese, ike means “make it alive” and bana means “flowers”. Rooted in centuries of tradition, ikebana is more than flower arranging — it is an art form that values balance, simplicity, and a deep connection with nature. Originally developed to honour guests and ancestors, ikebana uses thoughtful composition and techniques rich in cultural meaning. In this winter-themed session, you’ll explore how to capture the beauty of the season using wintery foliage and flowers. Kazuko will introduce sustainable methods for holding and arranging plants without specialised flower frogs, showing how striking displays can be created using what is seasonally available and affordable.
You’ll also learn practical tips for making flowers last longer and will create your own arrangement to take home. Please bring plant scissors if you have them, and feel free to bring a vase from home. A selection of small vases will be available for a gold coin donation. Course fee includes flowers and foliage.
