HISTORY OF CHINA 1: ANCIENT TO THE MING DYNASTY

Starts 8th October, 12.30-2.30pm

Description

Join Michael Couch for this lecture series. From the Great Wall to Confucius, from Buddhism to a 1.4 billion person nation, dragons to horoscopes - for many, China is a land of mystery and stereotypes. This course explores the development of this civilization through its political, social, economic and creative practices. We will appreciate its artistic and literary traditions, inquire into its philosophical and religious legacies, and discuss its cultural contributions to the world. In particular, this course studies China from its earliest years through to throwing off Mongol occupation.
