JAPANESE FOLK DANCING [BON-ODORI]
Starts 8th August, 1-2pm, 3 Fridays
Description
This traditional folk dance is to celebrate/welcome the ancestors in Obon season in Japan (mid-August). Bon odori is a way to welcome and send off ancestral spirits, and it's a joyful, communal celebration. Kazuko's mother was a traditional Japanese dance instructor and Kazuko was a festival goer in her childhood. She remembers dancing in the front row up on the stage. Kazuko offers this fun ‘have a go’ course as a way of honouring her family tradition and she is eager to share the joy of dance from another country with you! The dances are made with simple movements and are easy to learn. Movements are modified to suit those with limited mobility or who want to be seated, making this suitable for everyone. Please wear closed shoes and comfortable clothing, no dance experience needed.
