IS MATHS REAL?

From Thursday 1 May, 12.30-2pm

Description

Eugenia Cheng  (author of The Art of Logic: How to make sense in a world that doesn't) is a mathematician who  believes that "a useful way to be a rational person is to look at the sense in which things might or might not be true rather than simply deciding if they are true or false." Mathematics is not just about finding the right answers: it is about logical thinking. In these sessions we explore ideas about how logical thinking relates to the real, complex, concrete world in which we live. This is a practical course where we chat about ideas and share stories about experiences in learning "how simple questions can lead us to mathematics' deepest truths". Please also see Elaine’s other course “Games and Chat” in the lifestyle section, which alternates weeks with this one.
