KIDS AND THEIR GROWNUPS

Description

A variety of creative and fun workshops for kids to enjoy with a parent, grandparent or other adult caregiver. A chance to connect and get creative together.  Minors MUST be accompanied by an adult. If as an adult you wish to make your own creation (heart, jewellery or basket) please purchase your own ticket. 

 

  1. 1.     FELTED VALENTINES DAY HEART – Elizabeth Sheid

Sunday 9 February, 1–3 pm, $16    

Wet felting is a fun project for children of all ages, and adults too! Elizabeth will supply all the materials to make a “Felted Valentine’s Day Heart” for that special someone. You will make a felted heart using soapy water and your fingers to compact, agitate and interlock wool rove fibres together to form a heart. The workshop will also look at the history of felting. At the end of the workshop participants will understand the process of how to wet felt at home using materials readily available at the local craft store. A light afternoon tea is also included in the ticket price - please advise us in advance of any dietary requirements. Elizabeth Sheid sells handicrafts at the Kaiapoi Market on Saturdays and has been felting for several years.

 

  1. 2.     MAKE YOUR OWN T-SHIRT YARN ACCESSORIES – Anthea Madill

Saturday 21 March, 10.30-11.30 am, $10

We will discuss the environmental impacts of textiles and learn how to recycle old cotton t-shirts into unique jewellery and accessories (in collaboration with Cirrhopp Design). This fun and creative process involves no scissors or sewing so is suitable for children aged 6 and up. At the end of the hour you will get to take home some wonderful handmade accessories and, we hope, be inspired to do some more upcycling of your own! Anthea runs Clever Green, a social enterprise focused on sustainability education and practice. 

 

  1. 3.     CROCHET YOUR OWN EASTER BASKET WITH T-SHIRT YARN – Kazuko Iwai

Saturday 28 March, 10am-12.30 pm, $16 

Learn how to make yarn out of old T-shirts and sheets and then use the yarn to make a beautiful Easter basket! If you have a T-shirt you would particularly like to use bring it along otherwise we will provide a selection. 

Please note this craft needs some persistence and dexterity, we therefore recommend it for children 9 years and above. 

A light morning tea is also included in the ticket price - please advise us in advance of any dietary requirements.
