Description

Following the Christchurch earthquakes, Bev Shepherd and Pauline Wayman set themselves a challenge. They asked, “How can we contribute to the repopulation and regeneration of New Brighton?”

Their desire to envision, plan and co-create a vibrant community of between fifteen and twenty-five homes that is economically, socially and environmentally sustainable was supported at a public meeting.  In 2013 The New Brighton Sustainable Coastal Village Project was formed.

Bev and Pauline share their journey to date. Included will be learning from research visits to cohousing communities in New Zealand, Australia, England and Denmark. A series of concept plans have been created. These will be available to view.
