Contemporary Art is not about Democracy

This introduction to contemporary New Zealand art argues that although art may outwardly entertain and pretend to flatter, its value resides in its seriousness, and ability to encourage reflection on what we know and believe, or think that we know or believe.  This class will include a visit to the Christchurch Art Gallery.  Contemporary Art is not about Democracy discusses ways of considering and reconsidering our experience of the visual arts.   Dr. Warren Feeney has written on the visual arts for more than 30 years and has an interest in all aspects of the arts and New Zealand’s social and cultural histories.
